Working Environment and Location

  • This position is hybrid and will require you to be onsite one day per quarter in Surrey, Addlestone office.

Purpose and Scope

The Global NPP Insights Expert provides dedicated insights, competitive intelligence, market research and forecasting support for assigned new and emerging pipeline assets. As a member of Global Brand and Pipeline Insights, the role partners closely with New Product Planning leads and cross-functional asset teams to translate evidence into decision-ready recommendations across key development milestones, strengthen asset strategy and support launch readiness. The role reports to the Chapter Lead, Global Brand and Pipeline Insights and operates consistently with peer Insights Expert roles within the team.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead integrated insights support for assigned new and pipeline assets, providing forward-looking understanding of markets, customers, competitors, unmet needs and potential sources of differentiation.
  • Serve as the primary Global Brand and Pipeline Insights partner to New Product Planning leads and assigned asset teams, identifying critical business questions and translating them into prioritized insight-generation plans.
  • Support NPP@A decision-making across the asset lifecycle by generating and synthesizing evidence relevant to where to play, how to win, what to prove and whether the opportunity is commercially attractive.
  • Lead primary market research, secondary research and competitive intelligence activities, integrating findings into clear implications and actionable recommendations for asset strategy.
  • Develop and maintain a robust view of market potential, patient pathways, treatment landscapes, future standards of care, access considerations and competitive evolution for assigned assets.
  • Partner with forecasting, analytics and cross-functional subject-matter experts to define, test and align assumptions for pipeline forecasts, scenarios, risk and opportunity assessments, and business development evaluations where required.
  • Translate complex scientific, clinical and commercial evidence into concise, decision-ready narratives for asset teams, governance forums and senior stakeholders.

  • Manage external research and intelligence partners, including development of requests for proposal, vendor selection, contracting, budget oversight, quality control and delivery against agreed timelines.
  • Prioritize work across multiple assets and milestones, flexing support according to portfolio needs, decision urgency and the maturity of each asset.
  • Contribute to the Global Brand and Pipeline Insights chapter by sharing best practices, building reusable approaches and ensuring consistency with peer roles reporting to the Chapter Lead.
  • Operate as a collaborative, non-line-management expert who influences through evidence, strategic thinking and trusted cross-functional relationships
  • Strong strategic and financial acumen, with the ability to connect insight findings to asset value, investment choices and development decisions.
  • Ability to structure ambiguous business questions, define fit-for-purpose analytical approaches and form clear hypotheses.
  • Proficiency in integrating primary research, secondary data, competitive intelligence, analogues and forecasting evidence into a coherent point of view.

Essential Qualifications

  • Substantial years of relevant experience, primarily in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare or life-sciences consulting environment, with experience in new product planning, pipeline insights, market research, competitive intelligence, forecasting or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to support early and mid-stage assets where evidence may be limited, uncertain or rapidly evolving.
  • Knowledgeable of forecasting approaches, techniques and methodologies; experienced in G7/G8 forecast modeling and risk and opportunity assessments
  • Strong experience in qualitative and quantitative primary market research and in the identification and use of relevant secondary data sources.
  • Experience translating scientific, clinical, market, customer and competitor evidence into objective commercial implications and strategic recommendations.
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects, external vendors, timelines and budgets in a global environment.
  • Strong understanding of the functions, governance and decision needs of a global pharmaceutical organization, including R&D and new product planning milestones.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively across commercial, medical, development, market access, evidence generation, finance, corporate strategy and other relevant functions.
  • Ability to influence decisions and build alignment without direct line authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex issues for senior and cross-functional audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree such as MBA, MSc, MPH, PharmD or PhD.
  • Experience supporting global new product planning or pipeline asset teams across multiple development stages.
  • Experience in oncology, ophthalmology or other Astellas priority therapeutic areas.
  • Experience with global forecasting, asset valuation, business development assessments or advanced analytics.
  • Biopharma consulting or agency-side market research experience.
  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in business, economics, mathematics, science, medicine or a related discipline.
