Senior Data Engineer Finance

The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Finance Data Engineer to join the IT EDP Finance & Group Functions Data & Analytics team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in enhancing our data infrastructure, optimizing data flows, and ensuring the availability and quality of strategically critical data assets. You will collaborate closely with data scientists and analysts to enable the Digital Finance Solutions Team with a strong Data Foundation to implement innovative digital solutions that streamline processes, enhance data-driven decision-making, and drive the adoption of new technologies across the finance function. 

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Collaboration with data architects, integration engineers, analysts, data scientists and finance business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions will be one of your key tasks.
  • You will design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes (e.g. AWS S3, Snowflake, dbt, Snaplogic) to support data integration and analytics and ensuring data quality, integrity, security, and accessibility.
  • Moreover, you will develop and maintain documentation for data processes, architecture, and workflows and monitor data pipeline performance.
  • In regard to technology evaluation you will stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve data engineering practices. 

Requirements 

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and several years of professional experience as a Data Engineer, Software Developer, Data Scientist or in a similar role (or Bachelor’s degree with more relevant professional experience)
  • Proven proficiency with the Apache ecosystem (Parquet, Iceberg, Spark, Kafka, Airflow), strong hands-on experience with AWS data services (Kinesis, Glue, AppFlow, Lambda, S3) and scripting languages such as Python or Scala as well as solid experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, preferably Snowflake and/or Databricks, and dbt (dbt Labs) for building and modeling data pipelines
  • Familiarity with end-to-end Finance processes in SAP, especially SAP FI/CO, including period-end closing, financial reporting and planning and consolidation processes would be ideal
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) would be an advantage
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills as well as a strong analytical mindset with the ability to engage with clients and stakeholders, understand processes and needs, translate finance requirements into technical solutions
  • Fluent English skills (oral and written), German skills are a plus
