We have an exciting opportunity for a Statistics & Data Science Manager to join our global Statistics & Data Science Team, dedicated to supporting the launch of vaccines and medicines products to market and their subsequent product lifecycle within manufacturing. Our team is part of the global Manufacturing Science Analytical and Technology (MSAT) group. We are looking for an experienced non-clinical statistician or data scientist to lead a team accountable for statistical evaluation and data science projects for our manufacturing locations across the globe. In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with scientific colleagues in multidisciplinary teams to embed data-driven thinking within projects while designing experiments and analyzing data. This is an exciting opportunity to use your applied data evaluation and modelling skills to lead statistics and data science capabilities built across several manufacturing sites, providing ample opportunity to coach key individuals to acquire the skills needed for data-driven decision-making.
We are looking for this role to be based at one of our Vaccines sites in Wavre (Belgium), Marburg (Germany) or Rosia (Italy) .
In this role you and your team will...
- Lead a team of statisticians and data scientists, ensuring activities are prioritized to satisfy GSC business needs and work is completed to an appropriate standard.
- Act as an essential partner and coach within cross-functional global teams by providing statistical and data science expertise to help process experts interpret outputs of data analyses and use these alongside other scientific understanding to drive outcomes aligned with GSK values. This especially includes contributing to the resolution of deviations and improvement projects.
- Provide leadership to ensure that statistical analysis/data science project reporting, and communication in the form of technical documents and presentations are in accordance with regulatory and internal guidance. Typical applications include study design and sample size calculation, process and method validation, assay or process trending, assay or process transfers, and predictive modeling.
- Ensure high-quality data evaluation, modelling and reporting, e.g., for regulatory dossiers that set a benchmark in the industry and result in high regulatory acceptance. Ensure compliance of data analyses with internal and external requirements (e.g., GSK QMS, GSK SOPs, Ph.Eur., ICH/FDA guidelines). Ensure the integrity of data evaluation by application of appropriate methodologies and traceability/reproducibility.
- Influence GSK internal policies, guidelines, and SOPs to ensure appropriate application of statistical and data science methodologies.
- Actively participate with the wider statistics and data science network (MSAT, Quality, TRD, and R&D, as well as with the GPS community) to develop, align, and standardize data evaluation methods, methodologies, and conventions to help ensure that best practices are incorporated into local ways of working.
- Upskill the organization through coaching, mentoring, and training of process and assay experts as required on the appropriate application of data evaluation tools for their business processes. Assure full integration of statistics and data science principles across functions into everyday work as appropriate. Focus on the development of associates and building a high-performing team that has a large positive impact on the organization.
- Manage external and internal collaborations with statistical or data science thought leaders and groups in other functions and divisions. Represent GSK on internal and external boards. Influence the external environment (e.g., regulators) by means of presenting at key conferences and publishing. Personal interaction and influencing of key regulators, FDA, or other regulatory agencies in the context of submission of dossiers, variations, etc.

Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- MSc in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a closely related field.
- Ability to lead a team of statisticians and data scientists.
- Ability to manage networks and build relationships transversally across the organization.
- Strong and diverse technical knowledge in statistics/data science. Knowledge of in several of the following areas: statistical process control, acceptance sampling, experimental design (DOE), linear regression, analysis of variance (ANOVA), measurement systems analysis (MSA), variance components analysis, equivalence analysis, tolerance intervals, mixed models, Monte Carlo simulation, Bayesian methodology, and analysis of high-dimensional data (MVA), predictive modeling.
- Experience in the use of statistical software (e.g., JMP, SAS, R, Python).
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills with experience in communicating complex information in logical and simplified terms at different levels.
- Background in consulting for statistical or data science projects, working alongside non-statistical colleagues to devise practical solutions for inquiries.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following skills are not required, just preferred:
- PhD in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a closely related field.
- Experience in leading a team.
- Knowledge of core API and drug product tests, unit operations, and product control strategies across multiple dose forms.
- Background in consulting for statistical or data science projects within a pharmaceutical manufacturing setting.
