Our Team:
We are looking for a postdoc in synthetic chemistry to enhance capabilities in our automated smart lab.
As a member of our Research team within the Integrated Drug Discovery Department at Sanofi in Frankfurt, you will be part of an interdisciplinary endeavor at the forefront of chemistry and technology in drug discovery. We leverage robotics and artificial intelligence to accelerate the Design-Make-Test-Analyze (DMTA) for compound discovery and optimization through innovation in an integrated and fully automated laboratory set up.
In your role, you will collaborate closely with our automation, medicinal and computational chemists, engineers and biologists to develop and adapt chemical reactions for automation, -building on your strong background in organic synthesis, catalysis, and modern synthetic methods.
Main responsibilities:
- Design and conduct fully automated multi-step syntheses of complex, drug-like molecules for our robotic synthesis platform, focusing on the facile isolation of materials
- Expand chemical space accessible by automated chemistry and enable synthesis of various modalities (macrocycles, PROTACs, etc.)
- Develop and employ different strategies to limit and/or circumvent work-up and purification procedures to enable time-saving operation (e. g. multicomponent and/or cascade reactions, use of immobilized easily removable reagents, selective molecular editing, late-stage functionalization)
- Adapt selected techniques to reaction types that address current synthetic needs/gaps and apply them to current medicinal chemistry projects
About you
- PhD in organic chemistry or equivalent
- Expert knowledge and practical expertise in organic synthesis and modern synthetic methods
- Matching ability in analytical (MS, NMR, etc.) and purification methods (flash chromatography, SPE, etc.)
- Experience in handling sophisticated laboratory equipment
- Affinity to chemistry automation or willingness to learn in this field
- Good communicator, with ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Research productivity as evidenced by oral and written communication and publication(s) in peer reviewed journals
- Very good English language skills, knowledge of German is a plus
