Job Description

About the role:

The Market Access and Public Affairs Lead – Portugal reports to the Country Head and serves as Takeda’s primary voice with payers, healthcare authorities, policymakers, and institutional stakeholders. The role is responsible for securing and maintaining broad patient access to Takeda medicines at an appropriate price and with minimal reimbursement restrictions.

It combines leadership across:

  • Market access strategy and execution

  • Pricing and reimbursement

  • Health economics and outcomes research

  • Public affairs and corporate communication

  • Stakeholder engagement

  • People and budget management

How you will contribute:

  • Develop and implement short- and long-term market access strategies aligned with Takeda’s corporate objectives.

  • Lead reimbursement submissions, pricing discussions, HTA projects, and negotiations with Portuguese healthcare authorities.

  • Build clinical, economic, and value dossiers to support product access.

  • Develop HEOR and real-world evidence strategies with Medical, brand teams, and Iberia Cluster colleagues.

  • Identify and manage relationships with policymakers, payers, healthcare institutions, and other key stakeholders.

  • Represent Takeda in industry forums and market access working groups.

  • Lead corporate communication and public affairs plans to strengthen Takeda’s reputation.

  • Support new product launches, pipeline assessments, and potential in-licensing opportunities.

  • Manage and develop Market Access, Public Affairs, and Portfolio Partnership teams.

  • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, regulatory, and Takeda requirements.

  • Monitor budgets, resource allocation, operational efficiency, and delivery of priorities.

What you bring to Takeda:

  • A university degree, preferably in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

  • At least 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare sector.

  • At least 3 years of direct market access experience.

  • Previous people-management experience, preferably in a leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of the Portuguese healthcare and pharmaceutical environment, including INFARMED and relevant authorities.

  • Expertise in pricing, reimbursement, HTA, patient access programs, hospital procurement, and pharmaceutical distribution channels.

  • Experience with product launches, particularly hospital products, complex therapies, specialty care, and rare diseases.

  • Strong English communication and presentation skills.

  • Strategic thinking, leadership, collaboration, adaptability, and a results-oriented mindset.

  • Confidence using digital tools, AI, data, and analytics to support effective decision-making.

  • A strong commitment to Takeda-ism, compliance, integrity, and the Patient–Trust–Reputation–Business principles.

  • Willingness to travel and attend relevant meetings, events, and training.

Base Salary Range:

€82,500.00 - €113,410.00

The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
