We are looking for a professional with a strong scientific background in Life Sciences and an interest in Intellectual Property to join our in-house IP team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in pharmaceutical patents while working closely with Bial's R&D and business teams across multiple therapeutic areas. We are seeking a curious, collaborative and scientifically minded professional who is eager to learn, contribute to innovation protection and grow within the Intellectual Property field.

The Impact You'll Make

  • Support the identification and assessment of patenting opportunities throughout the pharmaceutical R&D lifecycle, working closely with R&D, Regulatory, Legal, Commercial and other internal teams.
  • Assist in providing patent-related advice to internal stakeholders, helping support informed decision-making.
  • Contribute to the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide under the guidance of senior team members and external patent attorneys.
  • Help manage and maintain patent portfolios for products and development projects.
  • Collaborate with external patent attorneys and service providers to support patent prosecution and IP-related projects.
  • Contribute to patent landscape analyses, literature reviews, freedom-to-operate assessments and other IP evaluations.
  • Support the implementation of patent strategies aligned with Bial's innovation and business objectives.
  • Stay informed about scientific and IP developments relevant to Bial's research areas, build expertise in these areas, and progressively contribute to the development of the IP function, taking on increasing responsibility and influence as experience grows.

What You'll Bring

  • MSc, PhD or equivalent qualification in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences or another Life Sciences discipline.
  • Relevant professional experience, which may have been gained through research activities, a PhD programme, post-doctoral work, technology transfer, intellectual property, patents or the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
  • Interest in Intellectual Property and innovation protection within the pharmaceutical sector.
  • Previous exposure to patents, technology transfer, scientific innovation management or intellectual property matters would be considered an advantage, but is not essential.
  • Strong scientific analytical skills, with the ability to understand and evaluate complex technical information.
  • Curiosity, learning agility and a genuine interest in developing a career in Intellectual Property.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with scientists and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Well-organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • H igh standards of integrity, responsibility and professional ethics.
