(Senior) Data Scientist - Data X Academy

The Position

Join the Data X Academy, where you will help employees, experts, and leaders build the capabilities they need to use Data & AI responsibly, confidently, and with measurable business value.
In this role, you will translate data science expertise into capability-building formats, learning journeys, communities, practical guidance, and thought leadership. You will act as a trusted expert, educator, and connector who enables colleagues across functions to understand Data & AI opportunities, evaluate risks, and apply modern methods in their own business context.


The Data X Academy is Boehringer Ingelheim’s global capability-building partner for Data & AI. We help people, teams, and leaders understand, apply, build, and lead with Data & AI, responsibly and with a clear connection to business value.

This position can be filled in Ingelheim.

This position can be filled either as Data Scientist or Senior Data Scientist.

This position has a hybrid setup with approximately 2-3 days per week on site.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • As (Senior) Data Scientist, you will design, develop, and continuously enhance learning journeys, training programs, workshops, hands-on labs, and enablement formats for diverse Data & AI audiences, translating complex topics (e.g., Data Science, Machine Learning, Generative AI, NLP/LLMs, MLOps, model evaluation, and Responsible AI) into accessible, business-relevant learning experiences for technical and non-technical learners.
  • You will drive role-based upskilling and capability building across expert, specialist, leadership, citizen-user, and business-impact profiles through interactive, application-focused learning formats, coaching, and practical guidance, while contributing to the evolution of the Data X Academy into a strategic enterprise-wide capability-building engine.
  • Strengthening and growing Data & AI communities by fostering peer learning, expert exchange, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and engagement through presentations, events, expert talks, internal conferences, communication channels, and community formats will also be one of your tasks.
  • You will act as a trusted internal thought leader by identifying emerging trends, tools, methods, and regulatory or ethical developments, translating them into actionable guidance, partnering with internal and external stakeholders, and promoting responsible, human-centric, and business-focused adoption of Data & AI.
  • Furthermore, you will apply hands-on expertise in analytics, machine learning, generative AI, data preparation, model evaluation, and business insight generation to shape, challenge, and enrich training concepts, learning formats, and use-case discussions.
  • Supporting pilots, prototypes, demonstrations, and practical examples, while collaborating with Data Engineers, Product Owners, Architects, business stakeholders, and subject matter experts to ensure learning content reflects realistic end-to-end Data & AI practices will also be your responsibility.

Additional tasks & responsibilities for Senior Data Scientist:

  • Contributing to the solution of conceptual programs within the own organizational unit by independently fulfilling complex tasks and being able to influence the implementation in collaboration or within other organizational units will be your responsibility.
  • Finally, you will be responsible for the technical expertise, this includes, for example, the conception, planning and/or processing of extensive, possibly cross-organizational specialist topics/(sub)projects and advising others on the topics of the area of responsibility and representing them in internal and external working groups with different interests.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, (Business- or Bio-) Informatics (or comparable quantitative discipline), or a bachelor’s degree with more relevant professional experience. An advanced scientific degree, such as a PhD, is desirable.
  • Few years of professional experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, NLP/LLMs, statistics, or related advanced analytics domains.
  • Strong ability to explain complex technical topics clearly and tailor communication to different audiences, including business users, specialists, experts, and leaders.
  • Good understanding of the end-to-end Data Science lifecycle, including business understanding, data preparation, modeling, evaluation, interpretation, and operational considerations as well as familiarity with responsible, compliant, and ethical use of Data & AI in enterprise or regulated environments.
  • Experience in training, facilitation, knowledge sharing, mentoring, consulting, community building, or capability development is highly desirable.
  • Strategic mindset, analytical problem-solving skills, curiosity, and strong attention to quality and practical relevance and a collaborative working style as well as the ability to build networks across functions, regions, and professional communities.
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly. German language skills are an advantage.

Additional requirements for Senior Data Scientist:

  • Several years of professional experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, NLP/LLMs, statistics, or related advanced analytics domains.
