We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative QSP modeling expert to join our PBPK/QSP team within the Global Clinical Pharmacology - Pharmacometrics group. As a key member of multidisciplinary project teams, you will develop, implement, and apply state-of-the-art mechanistic models to inform evidence-based decision making in clinical drug development. You will collaborate with different stakeholders within and outside of the CPS department.

This position can be performed in a hybrid format in Germany (Ingelheim or Biberach). It also be filled in the US (Ridgefield), Japan (Kobe) and China (Shanghai). For US, Japan and China please apply on separate job postings.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will lead and execute clinical Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) modeling projects within multidisciplinary systems pharmacology, pharmacometrics, and drug development teams, driving model-informed decision making across development programs.
  • Additionally, you will develop, qualify, apply, and communicate fit-for-purpose QSP models that integrate non-clinical, translational, biomarker, and clinical data to address critical scientific and development questions.
  • You will also translate biological and pharmacological knowledge into quantitative model structures, assumptions, and simulations, generating actionable insights while clearly communicating model limitations, uncertainties, and their potential impact.
  • Furthermore, you will define and drive QSP modeling strategies aligned with project objectives, delivering scientifically robust analyses and interpretations to support clinical development decisions.
  • You will provide independent advice on complex mechanistic modeling challenges and represent QSP expertise in cross-functional scientific, technical, and strategic discussions.
  • Beyond this, you will provide scientific leadership and guidance throughout model development, qualification, application, and communication activities while fostering collaboration across internal teams and external partners.
  • Finally, you will drive innovation, standardization, and digitalization in mechanistic modeling and simulation by evaluating, developing, and implementing novel methodologies, tools, and technologies, while overseeing external modeling activities to ensure scientific excellence and strategic alignment.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent advanced degree in systems pharmacology, pharmacometrics, clinical pharmacology, computational biology, bioengineering, mathematics, or a related quantitative field
  • Several years of hands-on professional experience in QSP modeling in the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory authorities, or relevant academic research
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanistic modeling in clinical drug development, including model development, calibration, qualification, simulation, sensitivity analysis, and interpretation of results
  • Experience with R and/or relevant QSP modeling platforms such as MATLAB/SimBiology, Julia, OSP Suite, or comparable tools; experience with statistical methods for analysis of nonclinical and clinical data is beneficial
  • Strong ability to communicate complex modeling concepts, assumptions, uncertainties, and decision impact clearly to multidisciplinary audiences
  • Proven collaboration skills in international, multidisciplinary teams and ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including experts, CROs, vendors, and leadership teams
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
