The Opportunity

This position works out of our Wiesbaden location, Abbott GmbH in the Abbott Point of Care division.

The Director, International Marketing defines the global commercial strategy for all Abbott Point of Care (APOC) International Markets, spanning EMEA, APAC and Latin America, Canada. This includes ownership of the international marketing vision, strategic planning, and portfolio leadership to drive sustained, profitable growth across 80+ countries with diverse regulatory, reimbursement, and healthcare system complexities.

The role leads the development of cross‑regional marketing plans, oversees execution excellence for international product launches, guides lifecycle management, and ensures marketing strategies reflect customer needs, competitive dynamics, and macro‑regional trends. Reporting to the GM International Markets, the Director serves as the principal commercial strategist for all non‑US markets and plays a critical role in shaping global portfolio decisions, pipeline prioritization, and long‑term enterprise growth.

Major Responsibilities

The Director, International Marketing is responsible for creating demand across all international markets through strategy leadership, differentiated value positioning, and harmonized execution while enabling region specific customization. This includes segmentation, targeting, market development, pricing strategy, channel optimization, and all aspects of the marketing mix across a highly diverse, multi cluster global region.

  • Define and lead international marketing strategy, aligning with global priorities while adapting to diverse market, regulatory, and healthcare environments.
  • Drive successful global product launches, ensuring strong positioning, rapid adoption, and execution excellence across regions.
  • Develop and implement international marketing plans, including segmentation, targeting, pricing, and channel strategy.
  • Create globally aligned, locally adaptable messaging, promotional tools, and digital assets.
  • Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics to inform strategy and investment decisions.
  • Partner with Regional GMs and country leaders to ensure effective, consistent execution.
  • Engage and develop relationships with global and regional Key Opinion Leaders to build advocacy and drive adoption.
  • Support market access through health economic tools and value-based messaging.
  • Lead international training programs and early adopter initiatives to accelerate uptake and best practice sharing.
  • Manage marketing budgets and contribute to forecasting, demand planning, and long-range strategy.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally (Marketing, Medical, Regulatory, Market Access, Supply Chain, Finance, etc.) to ensure alignment and delivery.
  • Represent international markets in global business reviews and governance forums.
  • Identify and scale innovative strategies to accelerate growth and strengthen market presence.
  • Internal: Work closely with international leadership, regional sales, and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment.
  • External: Engage KOLs, agencies, and strategic partners to strengthen brand presence and customer engagement.

Qualification:

  • Degree in Business, Marketing, technical or scientific discipline
  • Written and verbal fluency in English is required.
  • Additional language skills in Arabic would be a distinct advantage.
  • 12–15+ years of progressive commercial leadership experience in Medical Devices, Diagnostics, or Healthcare, including experience leading multi country marketing teams.
  • Proven experience driving strategy and execution across multiple international regions (EMEA, APAC, LATAM, Japan, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of global healthcare systems, reimbursement environments, regulatory landscapes, and clinical workflows.
  • Demonstrated leadership in digital marketing, omnichannel strategy, and global brand development.
  • Experience leading complex global launch programs and lifecycle management for diagnostic or medical device portfolios.
  • Outstanding strategic planning and analytical capability, with a track record of shaping commercial strategy and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing commercial plans that achieve growth across diverse regions with differing market maturity.
  • Strong ability to lead through ambiguity, make high-quality decisions without precedent, and drive organizational alignment across geographies.
  • Entrepreneurial and results-driven mindset.
  • Effective at cross-functional leadership and collaboration with operations, regulatory, MA, market access, supply chain, finance, legal, compliance, HR, and customer service.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, capable of navigating complex stakeholder environments and leading global dialogues.
