We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated scientist to join our Portfolio, Pharmacology and Data Sciences Department at the Scientist/Sr Scientist level. The successful candidate will conduct advanced research in the areas of 3D cell culture and organ-on-chip systems, creating in vitro cellular models and relevant assays for the safety evaluation of new drug candidates.
This role can be positioned either on GCF Level 5-1 (Scientist) or 5-2 (Senior Scientist) , depending on professional qualification
and experience.
TASKS:
-
Develop and implement new in vitro and ex vivo methods to support the development of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for nonclinical safety assessment.

Application of 3D cell culture models (organoids / organs-on-a-chip technologies) that replicate various human organs (e.g., lung, lymph node, liver, pancreas, blood vessels, skin) and their associated diseases (e.g., cancer, autoimmunity) for drug screening and safety assessment applications.

Characterization of 3D cell culture models using fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, or gene/protein expression.

Qualifying 3D cell culture models for a particular use by quantifying their ability to predict known clinical outcomes.

Conducting relevant cellular/molecule functional in vitro assays on the efficacy and toxicity of potential drug candidates (e.g., antibodies) utilizing plate-based immunoassays, FACS and cell-based imaging with minimal supervision.

Develop hypotheses and design experimental plans to propose creative and novel solutions, execute experiments, and analyze and interpret results.

Collaborate cross-functionally with various scientific teams, sharing ideas and proposing solutions for scientific and clinical challenges during regular group meetings and internal seminars.

Engage in appropriate training of lab personnel and lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering supplies.

Manage projects independently and contribute to their intellectual advancement.

Stay updated on current literature in organoids and organs-on-a-chip technology and related fields.
Qualifications and requirements:

Master's Degree with 3+ years of experience or PhD degree in cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, or related fields.

In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with cell cultures such as immortalized cells, particularly in 3D cell culture models and organs-on-a-chip technologies, including design, characterization, and validation as well as in cell-based assays, molecular biology, immunology, and biochemical techniques.

Skilled in biomarker detection techniques, including ELISA and ELISPOT.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills .

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and German, with a strong willingness to collaborate in a global environment.

Preferably direct experience developing organoids or organs-on-a-chip model within academia or a model development company.
