
Global Head of Tax Operations & Tax Technology
The Position
As Global Head of Tax Operations & Tax Technology, you will have global governance for ensuring tax compliance with all relevant tax requirements (including CIT, VAT, WHT, tax accounting, etc.) in more than 60 countries worldwide. In this strategic leadership role, you will lead a team of Senior Managers and steer an external service provider to drive operational excellence, process automation and risk mitigation on a global scale. You will oversee standardized and scalable tax compliance processes while providing governance for the implementation of technology‑driven solutions to enhance efficiency, transparency, and quality. Acting as a trusted business partner to Finance and other stakeholders, you will ensure timely and accurate tax compliance and year end closing processes aligned with the company’s global governance framework, while continuously evolving the tax operations function to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex tax and technological environment.
Tasks & responsibilities
- You will lead and shape the future of the Tax Operations & Tax Technology team within the Corporate Tax department, driving tax compliance and enabling technology advancements.
- External service providers will be managed strategically under your guidance, with a focus on budget control and effective collaboration.
- Tax obligations will be fulfilled accurately and on time, including accountability for the global tax year end closing obligations. You further adapt processes to legislative changes and local requirements.
- Continuous improvement will be at the core of your work, as you standardize and automate tax compliance processes, leveraging cutting-edge technology to boost efficiency, quality, and sustainability.
- A robust compliance and risk control framework will be maintained and enhanced under your leadership, ensuring adherence to tax governance policies with principles like four-eyes controls and thorough documentation standards.
- You will act as a trusted business partner, collaborating proactively with local finance teams and global stakeholders—including Corporate Tax & Trade Governance, GBS Centers, Process & Program Management, Finance, Accounting, Controlling, and Treasury—to provide timely advice on tax-related matters and legislative updates.
- Global initiatives will be spearheaded by you to reduce manual efforts, accelerate compliance timelines, mitigate risks, and drive performance improvements through digital transformation and process innovation in partnership with GBS Process & Program Management.
Requirements
- University degree in Business Administration, Law, Economics, or a comparable field, ideally with a focus on taxation
- Professional tax qualification (e.g., German Tax Advisor exam or equivalent international certification)
- Longterm relevant experience in tax operations within a multinational corporation or as a consultant with proven expertise in international tax (CIT, WHT, VAT, TP, tax accounting etc.) and global process governance
- Strong understanding of finance and legal principles (e.g., German GAAP, valuation, financing)
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with a hands-on and solution-oriented mindset
- Demonstrated experience in leading and developing teams, fostering collaboration, and executing change management initiatives in a global, cross-cultural environment
- Hands-on knowledge or proven affinity with tax technology solutions and digital transformation tools, including workflow automation, data analytics platforms, and AI
- Excellent English and German communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships across all organizational levels
