Principal Scientist as Clinical Imaging Lead

This position has a hybrid setup with approximately 2-3 days per week on site.

This position is part time eligible with 80%.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will support drug development projects in the transition from research to clinical development and up to clinical phase III, including submission, by providing your expertise in clinical imaging biomarkers with strong focus on ophthalmic imaging technologies and image analysis. 
  • Furthermore, you will successfully implement biomarker strategies in clinical trials and translational studies in close collaboration with Clinical Operations as well as with academic partners and CROs.
  • Together with other early clinical development functions, you will ensure that the (imaging) biomarker data package supports a PoC in alignment with the Target Product Profile.
  • You will be closely working with trial teams ensuring input for Clinical trial protocols and supporting the image transfer and imaging biomarker data transfer in clinical trials across all drug development phases.
  • In addition, you will establish a network of leading academic partners to ensure a continuous exchange about ophthalmic imaging/image analysis methodologies and in vivo biomarkers across projects.
  • You will design and lead experimental medicine studies to validate clinical imaging biomarkers in collaboration with internal and external partners.

Requirements

  • PhD/OD or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Bio-/Medical Physics, Biology, Optometry or comparable with a strong track record of independent clinical/research activities in the field of clinical imaging
  • Multiple years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent working experience; working experience in a pharmaceutical or diagnostic company is a plus
  • Knowledge in implementing ophthalmic imaging, e.g., OCT, OCT-A, CFP, FAF, FA, and image analysis technologies
  • Deep understanding of the acquisition and analysis of imaging data and linkage between imaging markers and clinical endpoints
  • Good knowledge about relevant regulatory regulations applicable for clinical imaging and drug development, e.g., Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and FDA industry guidance
  • Able to project opinions and knowledge with confidence, authority, respect, and diplomacy when interacting with all levels of Boehringer Ingelheim colleagues and external partners
  • Collaborative, innovative, self-directed, with outstanding team-working and communication skills
  • Excellent English - both spoken and written
