Principal Scientist (m/f/d) - Oncology


We are looking for a Principal Scientist to join the newly established NiVP (Novel in vitro Phenomics) team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about developing innovative in vitro models that drive meaningful impact for patients.
NiVP is part of the Oncology Translational Research (OTR) team at GSK and is embedded in a collaborative network across OTR and beyond, supporting both preclinical and clinical development programs within the GSK Oncology Therapeutic Area.
The successful candidate will join a team currently being built across Berlin and Stevenage, with a core focus on establishing cutting-edge organoid models. These models will be leveraged across a range of translational applications, from chemosensitivity profiling to molecular engineering approaches for biomarker discovery and target validation.

Key responsibilities:
This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Establish and execute cell culture protocols for the growth and expansion of patient-derived organoids  from various tumor entities, including both solid tumors and hematological malignancies.
  • Developing co-culture protocols for patient-derived organoids and components of the microenvironment of human diseases, including but not limited to cancer.
  • Oversee the development, monitoring, and evaluation of patient-derived organoids (e.g., cell density, proliferation rate) utilizing advanced techniques in cell and molecular biology according to best practices and quality control standards.
  • Organize and contribute to collaborative projects with both academic and industry research partners.
  • Coordinate workflows as part of a cross-functional project team.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental results; summarize findings in clear reports and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders.


Why you?
Key Qualifications & Skills:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Oncology, Immunology or a related field, with postdoctoral or equivalent research experience.
  • Strong background in cell biology, including cellular reprogramming, disease modeling and complex cell culture, ideally with multidisciplinary training.
  • Proven expertise in cell culture techniques, particularly with primary samples (human biopsies, resections or buffy coats) and patient-derived organoids; experience with variations of culture systems (2D, 3D and/or co-culture).
  • Skilled in cellular and molecular biology methods relevant to translational research.
  • Independence in forming scientific hypotheses; executing, analyzing, validating results and optimizing procedures when needed.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and engage with both peers and senior stakeholders.

Preferred Requirements:
Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

  • Experience in cellular profiling methods such as flow cytometry analysis and FACS sorting, with hands-on experience in CRISPR on organoids considered an advantage.
  • Proven track record of scientific publications or achievements.
  • Experience collaborating with biopharmaceutical industry partners.
