Your role: You will lead a high-caliber team of senior scientists and engineers within the Downstream Science & Applications organization, driving the advancement of applications knowledge across our downstream bioprocessing portfolio. As a senior manager and subject matter expert in downstream bioprocessing, you will provide authoritative technical guidance on the most complex applications challenges spanning our filtration and chromatography portfolio. You will serve as Applications Lead on new product development projects, steering early-stage applications development to accelerate commercial readiness and drive product adoption in the market. You will define and actively manage the team's technical priorities, balancing support for new product launches against legacy product needs while keeping decisions firmly aligned with broader R&D goals and revenue impact. You will partner closely with customer-facing teams to resolve escalated technical questions, ensuring our clients receive expert-level support and our scientific credibility in the field is continuously reinforced. Collaborating with the broader innovation and technology pipeline organization, you will translate external scientific signals into actionable development priorities that keep our downstream portfolio at the cutting edge. You will represent our company at industry conferences, scientific consortia, and academic collaborations, cultivating a broad network of downstream bioprocessing contacts that generates insights shaping our portfolio strategy. As a thought leader, you will author and contribute to publications, application notes, white papers, and other scientific content that elevates our standing in the downstream bioprocessing community. This position is based in Bedford, MA, or Darmstadt, Germany, with up to 15% travel to support conferences, customer engagements, and cross-site collaboration.

Who you are:

  • You hold a Bachelor's degree in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related life sciences field with 12–15+ years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 10–12+ years; or a PhD with 8–10+ years.
  • You bring demonstrated, hands-on expertise in downstream bioprocessing — with deep practical knowledge in chromatography, filtration, or both.
  • You have a proven track record of leading and developing high-performing technical teams and delivering high-impact scientific results.
  • You have solid experience with biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes and key modalities such as mAbs, recombinant proteins, or viral vectors.
  • Your scientific communication skills are strong — you have presented at conferences, authored publications, or contributed to external scientific engagement.
  • You have experience as a subject matter expert or applications lead on complex, multi-stakeholder R&D projects.
  • You have an established network within the downstream bioprocessing community.
  • You are a collaborative cross-functional partner who thrives at the intersection of deep technical expertise and strategic portfolio thinking.
